Teaching Philosophy

My personal philosophy as an educator is to value every student in my classroom, celebrate their success, support them during challenging times, and develop respectful and communicative relationships. Teachers have tremendous influence on their students, so it is vital that I am a positive, inclusive, and kind influence on my students’ educational experiences.

I believe the purpose of education is to give students the tools to reach their full academic and social potential. Every student’s full potential looks different and every student’s academic and social experiences will look different, too. It is an educator’s job to teach their students as they guide them on the path to success, and it will look different for each individual. Students learn best when they know someone believes in them. I will always be that person for my students.

I will set high, realistic educational and behavioral goals for my students and offer them the support and resources they need to succeed. My students will be reminded of their talent and potential. Confidence leads to motivation. Both confidence and motivation are crucial in creating positive academic and social experiences at school. My students will know I am their biggest cheerleader. My students will also encourage and cheer for each other, because our classroom will be a supportive community of learners.

My instructional priorities will be individualized to meet each of the student’s unique needs, while maintaining cohesiveness with the whole classroom. The students’ strengths will be emphasized and used to their advantage in the classroom. Because of my encouragement and support, my students will build their self-efficacy and believe in themselves. I will encourage my students to take chances and remind them that it is okay to be wrong, but it is never okay to stop trying.

My goal for my students is to give them academic and behavioral tools and strategies that will remain with them after they leave my class. If I have done my job, my students will be creative thinkers, kind friends, and caring citizens. The skills I will teach my students will translate into life and other classrooms.
